Application of a Combined FEM/DEM Approach for Teaching a Deep Rock Mass Mechanics Course

چکیده

Deep rock mass mechanics is a professional course which offered to undergraduate and postgraduate students in some mining universities. This mainly includes the following topics: geological structure of deep mass, mechanical properties rocks, strength theory masses, stability analysis control surrounding classification engineering application underground The purpose this present with basic theoretical knowledge engineering. Analyzing limitations traditional teaching methods, here, we propose integrating combined FEM/DEM (Finite Element Method/Discrete Method) approach into on mechanics. behaviors failure instability process at laboratory scales were analyzed using ELFEN software (a finite/discrete element code). results show that as method completely feasible reasonable; has advantages strong intuition, high reliability, time labor savings, low cost, can offset shortcomings methods. Moreover, proposed stimulate students’ interests mechanics, deepen understanding curriculum, cultivate innovative abilities subjective initiatives.
